Egyptian President, Canadian PM discuss development in Middle East

(MENAFN) Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney held a phone conversation on Monday to discuss the situation in the Middle East and efforts to restore regional stability.

According to a statement from the Egyptian presidency, Sisi highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts to facilitate a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and stressed the urgent need to deliver humanitarian aid to the area.

He reaffirmed that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, based on international legitimacy resolutions, remains the only path to sustainable stability in the region.

The leaders also explored ways to strengthen bilateral ties, focusing on economic, trade, and investment cooperation. Both sides expressed their commitment to further collaboration across various sectors.

Meanwhile, Israeli military operations resumed in Gaza on March 18. Gaza health authorities reported that since then, over 6,200 Palestinians have been killed and more than 21,600 wounded, bringing the total casualties since October 2023 to 56,531 dead and 133,642 injured.
