Founded in Houston, Texas in 1980, La Mafia has become one of the most influential and successful groups in Tejano and Latin music history. Led by vocalist Oscar De La Rosa and producer/accordionist Armando Lichtenberger Jr., the band helped shape the modern Tejano sound through a blend of traditional regional Mexican music, cumbia, and contemporary influences. Over the course of their career, La Mafia has built a loyal international following with extensive touring throughout Mexico, Latin America, and the United States.
La Mafia is a five-time Grammy Award-winning group and has also earned multiple Latin Grammy Awards throughout their career. Their accomplishments include Grammy wins for the albums Un Millón de Rosas and En Tus Manos, along with Latin Grammy recognition for Para El Pueblo, Nuevamente, and Live in Mexico. The group has also received numerous Billboard, Premio Lo Nuestro, and Tejano Music Awards, including a Tejano Music Awards Lifetime Achievement honor.
Some of their hit songs include Billboard Hot Latin Song of the Year in 1994, “Me Estoy Enamorando;” “Vida,” “Un Millón de Rosas,” and “Nuestra Canción.”
